Tesco Moves Into The Property Market
In a move which has been expected for some time, Tesco have announced plans to move into the UK property market, offering a service to sellers in the UK. While the initial service will be fairly basic, offering sellers the chance to list their properties on a Tesco Property website, many believe that this is only the tip of the iceberg with regard to the company’s long term plans.
Sellers who list their properties on the Tesco website, for a one off fee of £200, will be supplied with a Tesco branded sales board to be placed outside their home - a useful piece of free marketing for the Tesco brand name?
To many it appears that in the longer term Tesco have plans to become a little more involved in the selling process, adding yet another potentially lucrative arm to a business which seems to have a hand in all areas of retail. There are concerns that the influence of the likes of Tesco and ASDA is nearing unacceptable levels, with new ventures seemingly announced on a regular basis. The supermarket chains are heavily involved in savings, insurance, credit cards and now property, as well as their traditional business.
Even though the authorities have made many noises about the influence of the likes of Tesco, very little has been done about this to date. The companies continue to grow and grow, touching more and more areas of everyday life. What next?
