Do You Really Need Travel Insurance?
Travel insurance is one of those “grey” areas which people will often do anything to get out of, or cut the cost to a minimum. Are we being tricked by the travel sector, or is it really important?
There is no doubt that travel insurance is vital for anyone who is taking that overseas break, and it is something which should be near the top of your travel list. While in the UK we enjoy the NHS and all of the benefits and “free†care which it brings, this is not always the case overseas. We have all probably heard stories from the US, whereby people have been refused medical treatment until they are able to produce the necessary insurance documents - unbelievable but true.
There are few countries in the world who have a free National Health Service, and those who expect the same overseas will be sorely disappointed. Medical care overseas can be very very expensive, and it is essential that all members of your travelling party have the necessary insurance cover. Even the most basic of treatment can cost a lot more than you expect, and if you are unable to pay then there may be a whole lot more costs and difficulties for you to contend with.
There are many offers on the market, but do not be fooled into thinking that you have to buy your travel insurance from your travel agent - you are still allowed to shop around, and arrange your own cover.
