Are UK Energy Costs Fair? Learn how to reduce your costs…
While we have recently seen both electricity and gas price reductions from a vast array of the UK’s major energy suppliers, are the headlines really as impressive as they make out?
While Powergen have today announced plans to cut gas prices by 16%, and electricity prices by 5% the fact that we have seen energy prices increase by up to 100% over the last 24 months gives us the wider picture. British Gas also recently confirmed price reductions, and there are rumours that Scottish and Southern Energy, Centrica and Scottish Power are planning further reductions.
After a period of sustained price rises we are now seeing a return of real competition to the sector, although the fact that the government have been looking into the reasons behind recent price rises may have started the increased competition. Further pressure from consumer groups is expected and more “headline†making reductions can be expected over the coming weeks and months.
Even though the UK has one of the more competitive energy markets in the world, historically the UK consumer has been very reticent to change. While there are major benefits to shopping around, many have been turned away by the thought of increased paperwork, delays and numerous phone calls. This may have been a problem in the past, but now there are a vast array of sites which will actually find the best offers for you, and do all of the paperwork on your behalf - all very seamless.
