“Free” Mobile Phone Upgrades - Are They Always What They Seem?

As the majority of the population own (or have access to) a mobile phone, the UK market has become one of the most competitive in the world. The fight to grab your attention and grab your business has reached fever pitch between the hundreds of mobile phone “agents” in the UK alone.

While many people will be receiving “free” upgrade phone calls on their mobiles as their contracts reach the end of their term, do you really know who you are dealing with?

Many people are making the simple mistake of believing that the companies that call to offer a “free” upgrade are connected with their original phone provider. Unfortunately very often this is not the case, with many dealers selling on the names and contact numbers of their customers to unconnected third parties. It is these third parties who are using unsolicited calls as a way to grab business from their competitors.

The offer of a “free” upgrade can very soon become an expensive affair with various add ons which include administration charges, tariff changes, longer term contracts and a lack of information about the best offers around. There is also no guarantee that you will be able to choose the mobile phone of your choice. Many people have complained that once they have agreed to the upgrade there is a distinct lack of after service, and very little assistance with problems.

The truth is that very often these parties are approaching you without even knowing when your contract is up, or your current tariff. How they can give you are a better deal without knowing your current arrangements is beyond belief!

Be very wary of signing-up to any agreement on the back an unsolicited phone call.
